The market

Package travellers are your best customers, and they check you out first.

All figures from the Bank of Tanzania’s 2025 International Visitors’ Exit Survey.

Record earnings

Tanzania earned USD 4,410.6 million from tourism in 2025, up 13% on 2024, from 2,294,495 international visitors. Zanzibar alone earned USD 1,190.8 million.

Packages bring the money

58.8% of visitors to mainland Tanzania came on package tours. They spent USD 479 per person per night, against USD 203 for independent travellers.

Operators and friends lead

49.1% of visitors named a travel agent or tour operator as their main source of information about Tanzania, and 37.2% named friends and relatives. Only 5.6% named the internet.

What that last number means for your website

The survey asks where visitors got their information about Tanzania, not how they picked an operator. What it does show is that travellers lean on operators and personal recommendations. Your website is where both end up: the overseas agent checking you before sending clients, and the traveller looking up the company a friend used. If the site is slow, vague or out of date, that is where the booking is lost.

What the site has to do

Six jobs a safari website must do well.

Itineraries that sell

Day-by-day routes with parks, lodges, drive times, a map, and what is and is not included. Each tour carries TouristTrip structured data, so search engines and AI assistants can read the route, length and price.

Clear prices and park fees

A price per person by season and group size, with park and conservation fees explained. Fees change, so prices sit in one place your team can update without a developer.

Enquiries that qualify themselves

A short form that asks for dates, group size, budget and interests, then confirms by email and WhatsApp. You open every enquiry knowing what to quote.

Card deposits

Deposits through a provider that accepts international cards, such as Pesapal or DPO Pay, with your terms shown before payment and automatic receipts.

Replies across time zones

A WhatsApp or web chat agent that answers questions about seasons, parks and prices while you are on safari, collects trip details and hands over to your team.

Proof travellers trust

Your tourism licence and association memberships, real photos of guides, vehicles and camps, and reviews from TripAdvisor or SafariBookings shown honestly, never invented.

Languages and markets

Sell to the travellers who actually come.

The United States, Italy and France were the leading source markets for mainland Tanzania in 2025, and Italy, France and the United Kingdom for Zanzibar (Bank of Tanzania). If those are your buyers, itineraries in Italian and French open doors that English-only competitors leave shut.

  • Each language on its own address, with hreflang tags so Google shows the right version
  • Prices and deposit terms in the currency you quote in, usually US dollars
  • Translation by professional translators, never machine output pasted in
  • Enquiry forms and auto-replies in the traveller’s language
  • Time-zone aware replies, so a traveller in Milan or Chicago hears back fast
Google and AI answers

Many travellers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to plan routes and suggest operators. An assistant can only recommend a company it can read about: on its website, on review sites and in travel articles. We make your site readable and your facts consistent through SEO, AEO and GEO and AI brand visibility work.

  • Tour and destination pages that AI crawlers can read without running JavaScript
  • Structured data that describes your company and your tours
  • The same company facts on your site, Google, TripAdvisor and SafariBookings
  • Travel advice pages that answer the questions travellers ask before they book
  • Monthly checks of what ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity say about you
Marketplaces and your own site

Keep the listings. Win the direct bookings.

Marketplaces bring reach and reviews. Your own site is where direct and repeat bookings happen. Most operators need both.

FAQ

Questions from safari and tour operators.

A Tanzanian web designer lists tour websites at TZS 500,000 to TZS 3,000,000 (Isack Digital), and a Kenyan agency quotes US$1,500 to US$8,000 for booking and tourism sites in Tanzania (Quest Designers). The spread comes from how many tours, languages and booking features you need. We quote one fixed price in US dollars after a free review. See what a website costs in Tanzania.
